Course descriptionThe New York State College of Ceramics has offered the MFA in Ceramic Art since 1943. Today, this program is ranked number one by U.S. News and World Report.
Competition for admission is rigorous. Every effort is made each year to select a class of considerable diversity, from functional potters to object makers, from vessel makers to those working with mixed-media installation. The MFA faculty consider the mastery of conceptual and technical skills to be essential. Additionally, a national and international cultural awareness, along with a knowledge of history, are expected. Students work closely with individual faculty members on a day-to-day basis, developing a body of work which is presented in a final MFA exhibition.
Expectations are high. Encouragement, support and challenge are the foundations of a MFA program which requires specific course work, as well as an attitude of openness and willingness to risk. After graduation, the lines of communication remain intact. Graduates can expect to receive continuing career assistance.
The Ceramic Art program has six full-time faculty: Anne Currier, Andrea Gill, John Gill, Linda Sikora, Wayne Higby, and Walter McConnell.
