Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Christian Studies
Course descriptionBachelor of Arts and Sciences major in Christian Studies is designed for students wishing to pursue careers in Christian ministry and also is appropriate for church staff and laypersons who serve in their churches and wish to engage in disciplined theological study.
The four-year program offers two emphases: Pastoral Ministry, and Youth Ministry. The curriculum for both tracks provides philosophical and theological groundwork for ministry, along with practical studies. Core requirements for both tracks include, among other courses, Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, Foundations of Bible Study, Survey of Christian Theology, Synoptic Gospels, History of Christianity, and either Philosophy of Religion or Building a Christian World View.
Students pursuing the Pastoral Ministry emphasis take additional courses, including Communicating the Gospel, Pastoral Counseling, and Evangelism and Discipleship, and complete an Internship/Practicum.
Students pursuing the Youth Ministry emphasis also take courses beyond the core group, including Educational Psychology, Foundations of Youth Ministry, Communicating the Gospel, Pastoral Counseling, Youth Culture and Evangelism, and complete an Internship/Practicum.
