The Teacher Education Program (TEP)

  • Course description Considering a career in education? Missouri S&T's unique Teacher Education Program may be a good fit for you. As schools around the country struggle to fill vacancies, Missouri S&T is preparing exceptional teachers to inspire future innovators, entrepreneurs and community leaders.

Students pursuing an education program at Missouri S&T complete a degree in their area of specialty instead of the more traditional degree in 'education.' Example: if your goal is to be a high school biology teacher, you'll complete a degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in secondary education.

You may earn a B.A. or B.S. degree in your chosen field from Missouri S&T and teaching certification in four years. Teacher certification can be obtained in the following areas at Missouri S&T: Social Science (History, Economics, Psychology), Language Arts (English), Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

All of the coursework required for the program is available on campus; student teaching and clinical experiences are typically arranged with local public schools within 30 miles of campus.

Many students even pursue co-op and internship opportunities, undergraduate research or leadership positions in student organizations before they graduate. With a solid foundation in your specialty area and in-depth laboratory experience, you'll be able to offer your future students a breadth of knowledge many new teachers simply won't have.

If you decide after graduation that you don't want to teach right-away, or change career plans down the road, you'll have a highly-regarded degree in your specialty area to give you ultimate career flexibility.
