  • Course description
    The Master of Interior Design combines theory, professional issues and current technology to provide a program aimed at people who are interested in expanding or updating their knowledge of the field. The program has two tracks. The 37 credit hour curriculum is for people with undergraduate degrees in Interior Design or Interior Architecture. A 3+  track is available to people who hold at least a bachelor's degree in another discipline and who would like to change careers. This 79 credit hour curriculum combines the content of the undergraduate professional courses with the graduate courses to also result in a Master of Interior Design.

    The program has a core in research, theory, issues, and design application and allows for independent exploration of topics. The program includes the Master Class that brings a significant practitioner to the school to lead a studio.

    Only Master's in Interior Design within Michigan housed in a College of Architecture and Design

        * Undergraduate Interior Architecture program is accredited by Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), and the graduate Interior Design program is accredited by National Association of School of Art and Design (NASAD).
        * Two options
          1. A 37 credit hour degree for people who have an undergraduate degree in Interior
              Design
          2. A 79 credit hour degree for people who have an undergraduate degree in another
              discipline, but who would like to change careers

        * Faculty who have practice and academic experience in broad areas including interior design, human behavior, history and theory, computer aided design, lighting, vernacular design and cultural factors, and sustainable design.
        * Opportunity to take elective courses in Architecture, Business, Engineering, or Arts and Sciences at LTU
        * Active student activities under the Interior Architecture Student Organization (IASO)
        * Active with the Michigan chapters of ASID, the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA)

    ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS 

    Please submit a graduate application form (can be done online), official transcripts, a portfolio, and three letters of recommendation.  The 37 credit program requires an undergraduate degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture with a minimum GPA of 2.70.  The 79 credit 3+ program requires a bachelor's degree in any discipline.  Applications are reviewed monthly.
